Hey all! Can anyone give me any information regarding the selectivity of SPICE, specifically the China Scholars Program? Also, how much work is it really, and is it highly regarded by colleges?

Stanford employee "legacy?"
One of my parents is a former post-doctoral fellow at Stanford. My academic/extracurricular credentials are on-par (maybe above average) compared to other Stanford admits. How much support, if anything, should I expect from this relationship? I understand that legacy usually only applies to students whose parents attended undergrad at the school, but will this help at all?

Chance me for Stanford?
Hi everyone, I will be applying to Stanford this year and will be majoring in Engineering Physics. I am a legacy (my step-father went to Stanford for the last two years of undergrad but has never donated). In addition, I am Hispanic and Jewish (Although I have some Hispanic heritage I have mostly grown up with the other side of my family and as thus know nothing about the culture). I go to a very competitive public school in Kansas, we have a track record of admitting a person a year to Stanford. We have 400 kids in my class and the top 20 or so all have very good GPAs and ACTs (there is 5 36 scorers for reference, and the valedictorian has a 4.8) Anyways, thanks so much for your input, here are my stats:
GPA: UW: 3.8(yeah I know yikes, most of Bs are from early in high school/middle school though)
W:4.45
10 APs plus Honors Multivariable Calculus (our school offers pretty much every single AP except like 2)
AP Calc AB: 5
AP Calc BC: 5
AP Physics C(self studied): 5
AP Chem: 5
AP Lang: 4
Ap Euro: 4
APUSH: 3(yikes)
SAT Subject Tests:
Math 2: 800
Chemistry: 750
US History: 650(yikes)
ACT: 35, with 36 subscores on all 4 sections over the course of two tests (should be able to get this to 36 in October)
I also went to Stanford Summer session(an 8 week full semester at Stanford) where I took an astrophysics, piano, and electrical engineering class earning straight As (an unusual feat even considering the caliber of students there) and am getting a supplemental recommendation from my astrophysics professor.
I am a national Merit Semifinalist(probably finalist soon)
Activities:
I am involved in a lot of things, in truth I am very spread out but on my application I tried to focus on a few of my extra curriculars.
President and Founder of Technology Student Association (senior year)
Science Olympiads -11,12 won several awards at regionals
Relay for Life Team Captain (10,11,12) I also wrote about this in my essay, I organize a performance with my drumline and activity for our relay every year and its the biggest relay in the country
Marching Band- 9,10,11,12: I am an avid musician whose lettered in band and received a dozen awards for duets, solos and ensembles, I am on drumline, and am also in jazz band.
SkillsUSA 10,11: Vice president 11, officer 10, 1st place state math contest, 6th place nationals
I disbanded SkillUSA in favor of Technology Student association when I took over it my senior year.
Secretary of Latin club-11,12 and member 9,10
National Honors society -11,12
Science national honors society - 12
Theoretical science club - 11,12 secretary-12
BBYO (Jewish youth group) 10,11,12
National Latin Honors society 11,12
DECA- 11, 12
Earned the presidential service award bronze 10,11
Mustang community service club - 11, 12
Common App essay: I wrote mine about how my different activities acted like the different layers of an atom, each paragraph compared itself to a different level and expressed a different trait about me.
There are a several better applicants at my school but they arent minority or legacy.
Thanks again for helping me with this!

Canadians Applying (or already applied if REA) to Stanford
hi I'm only a grade 10 this year, but Stanford is my DREAM DREAM DREAM school. As an international student (Canadian), it's literally so hard to get in and I'm already nervous. TBH my stats are quite unimpressive right now, but I was wondering how you guys are doing and if the application process was/is a breeze?

2020 Fall Transfer Stanford
I haven't seen a Stanford transfer thread for the 2020-2021 academic year so here we go! Feel free to post your stats or whatever you feel comfortable sharing! I am hoping we can all post any questions regarding the process, and hopefully someone else will know the answer.
I'm currently a rising sophomore at UC Berkeley.
GPA: 3.6 at Berkeley, 4.0 at a local community college (I took 3 summer classes and 2 classes during the semester at Cal (concurrent enrollment))
I know my GPA is considered low for Stanford but I am hoping the fact that I go to Berkeley will impress the admissions officers. I've heard that Stanford AOs know that Cal has INTENSE grade deflation, so that may help my case.
Extracurriculars:
- four somewhat prestigious internships since the summer after I graduated from high school, including the Bank of America Student Leaders program and three internships closely related to my intended major.
- appointed commissioner on a city commission
- very active in student government
- director of a committee in my professional fraternity (which is somewhat related to my major)
- Hertz Community scholar
- director of a committee within a state political party for college students
- in high school, I was the chair of my local Assisteens chapter, the president of Interact Club, and the secretary for my city's youth council (in addition to some other positions within my high school's clubs)
SAT/ACT: My SAT score from high school is considered low for Stanford, so I will be taking the ACT and retaking the SAT. Any tips for studying for the ACT? Any general tips?
Random info: I am a low-income, first gen Latina. I went to an underfunded high school, and was top 1% in high school. I got into UCLA and Cal (obviously) straight out of high school. I did not apply to Stanford or any Ivies as a senior.
Family circumstances: my father was diagnosed with a serious illness (he's okay now, I think!) during my freshman year so that's partially why my grades suffered, and I plan on mentioning that in the supplemental section.
Be completely honest with me.... do you think I have any shot of being admitted or waitlisted at this point? It's pretty much a crapshoot.
Again, please feel free to list your stats or simply say hello! Let's do this!

Forgot SAT essay score... Will Stanford rescind?
I self-reported my SAT score and decided at the time of the application that I’d send it later if I get accepted since the score sends cost money. I got accepted rea but I realized that I completely forgot to include my essay score and instead selected no essay. I’m worried that this is considered a discrepancy and they might rescind when they receive the official score. This might seem minor, but it’s been nagging at me ever since I figured it out. I’m not really sure how strict Stanford is about these things. What do I do?
↧
Chances of getting into Stanford?

Gpa: my school doesn’t calculate GPAs, although I put the grades below

recs: good I hope... my school doesn't let us see our recs but I asked my two favorite teachers and my crew coach

Is it a good idea to take chem/biochem at a community college
My DD is a junior in high school could not take chemistry in school due to schedule conflicts. She took AP Bio in sophomore year outside of school ( school does not allow APs until junior year). She is planning to do AP physics next year and is doing CTY honors physics this year. She also has 4 other APs this year. Will it be a good idea to take chem/biochem in our local community college this spring? Will the colleges look at it positively?
Thanks

do i stand a chance at stanford university
Hey there, I am from Georgia. I come from a low income background. I am really worried if I should apply to stanford university. I am an African American male and I have a 4.6 weighted, 4.0 unweighted, and a 1410 sat test. I took the sat 4 times and I might try one more time but I dont think I can get it up any higher. I have taken 10 ap classes(by the end of senior year). I know that my essays would have to be really good for me to stand a chance. I am planning to apply early action(November 1st) deadline. I have 10 extra curriculars, and I am captain of my cross country team, president of NHS and medical club, and I am an officer for peer leadership/stuco. My question is do you think I should apply and would I stand a chance. I feel like my SAT score holds me back.

Happy Holidays! I am interested in learning more about the Hoover Institue and how undergrads can get involved?
