Why isn't Stanford in the Ivy league. I always thought it was.

Should I attend TASP or Stanford Pre-Collegiate Studies?

Here's the thing: Stanford is my absolute dream school. And I feel like attending their summer pre-collegiate programs would definitely demonstrate my interest in their school. Plus I've heard that many attendees end up actually getting into Stanford (def not sure if it's true bc i'm pretty sure the summer program isn't that selective but a lot of ppl have said this). I already got into their summer program and I'm waiting to hear back from TASP. I know TASP is more prestigious but if I end up getting into both, which should I choose?

Is Stanford sending out acceptance letters for RD admits?

I was accepted in Stanford this year as a RD admit. I still haven't received an official acceptance letter in the mail, though I did receive the VR headset and cap. I know USC isn't sending out acceptance letters this year; will Stanford do the same?

Can you get into Stanford with a 3.5 UW GPA?

I know I know many of you are probably thinking "is this kid joking?? single hardest school to get into and you're asking about a 3.5"

Here's the dealio: I know my chances are slim. I know they are slimmer than slim. I even heard that students (who aren't recruited athletes) that have GPAs below a 3.7 have an even lower chance of getting accepted (like 1% apparently). But say, in the BEST POSSIBLE scenario, I have a stellar application otherwise. Say I have a great 1500 range SAT score, mindblowing essays, and amazing extracurrics (def not saying i have all of these things, we're just imagining here ok)--AND THE ONLY THING I DON'T HAVE GOING FOR ME IS A HIGH GPA because I've gotten multiple Bs and am not even top 10% of my class in terms of grades. The thing is, in comparison to the kids at my school (they're the straight-A only does things to look good to colleges and aren't that passionate type of ppl), my grades aren't great but I feel like my extracurrics & awards are farther up there than most of them in that regard.

Would my subpar, wildly mediocre, even maybe even POOR grades (in comparison to other applicants) play a significant role in holding back the admission officers?

Please don't hate on this question, I realize that what I'm asking is kind of unbelievable and even naive but I'm genuinely wondering.

Fall classes in tents?

AMA/Tips: Need Help With Computer Science Admissions? (Stanford, CMU, Duke, etc. unhooked admit)

Hi everyone!

My name is Austin Bennett, and I will be attending Stanford University in the fall to study Computer Science. Like many of you, I was super intimidated by the college process -- I'm not a super genius, I'm completely unhooked, I don't attend a feeder school, I'm not at the very top of my class; and unfortunately, my parents couldn't afford the $500,000 donation to USC -- but somehow, it worked out for me.

Anyways, I spent a lot of time on this website, and I wanted to at least tell about how I somehow pulled this off. The short answer: luck. College Admissions is totally luck-central. The longer answer, however, is in Youtube video I made for y'all describing some general application tips as well as my stats, ECs, awards, & more (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=72UaoocZEH4). I'll be posting individual tips for the schools to which I was admitted; but if you have any quick questions, I'd be happy to answer them!

Also, if you want some college advising, I was recently recruited by the college admissions advising service, Bullseye Admissions, and I will be providing essay editing, interview prep, and other general college consulting services through them. If you’d like to work with me, feel free to reply, shoot me a PM, or visit the link to my profile on the Bullseye Admissions website: https://app.joinbullseye.com/mentors/3205.

TL;DR I'm providing application tips on how I was admitted to top Computer Science schools.

Stanford University Public Policy Admission Help

Hi, I'm taking a gap year and planning to apply to Stanford University with a major in Public Policy (concentration Education Policy). I would like to seek advice from people who have been admitted to this program, as I have heard from anyone.
I also appreciate advices from Stanford admits who major in something else. I have been admitted to the 9th, 21st and 22nd best Education school worldwide (UW - Madison, NYU & Penn State respectively) & am now aiming for the best Education school worldwide (Stanford). My GPA is 3.5, ACT 32 & I have done research, managed the only career education - related student organization in my country, created a website to share my experience learning 40+ different academic subjects, did 4 credit - granting courses in Education.

I graduated from high school in 2018, and was admitted to Stanford, Duke, Cornell, Vanderbilt, Emory, WUSTL (among others). I was active on College Confidential while applying to colleges, and want to give back. Please feel free to ask me anything about college admissions or collegiate life!

Hello everyone, I'm making this thread for other waitlisted transfer applicants. I think that having a place to communicate and update each other is good for our anxiety. Getting waitlisted is a stressful thing and maybe we can help each other feel better.

Ask questions about applying to Stanford!

Hi everyone,

I was recently admitted and will be attending Stanford in the fall! This post was created so that people (mostly future applicants and their parents), can ask for advice on the admissions process, what to include and what not to include, etc.

Please note that anyone can answer / ask questions on this thread. Hopefully this will make the application process a lot easier for everyone :)

Stanford Class of 2024 (entering 2020), Regular Decision

Seems that the regular decision thread is missing, so I started it. Those who were not accepted in REA, are now regular RD as well. How is everyone doing?

Low AP Score

When filling out my application, I left off a low ap score (a 1) in the self-reporting section. But the official score report will include all of them. Will Stanford rescind admission for this? Is it worth paying to withhold the score?

How risky can you get with your short essays?

I see people posting funny responses to the "What five words best describe you?" question, but no one says if they actually got in. I'm wondering if anyone has chosen to go the humorous route and gotten in. I assume that particular section won't be the sole reason someone gets rejected but I don't want to spend time being creative or quirky or whatever just for it to count against me in the admissions process. Basically where does Stanford fall on a scale of BYU to UChicago?

Video game designing

Hi
How popular the video game designing major at Stanford is and how difficult it is to get into that?
Thanks
